    • Session Three Devo’s –

Read John 4:3-36. In this passage, Jesus and the disciples were “on the way” and journeying through Samaria on the way to Galilee.  In the middle of a long day, Jesus was tired and hungry and “high-noon hot.”

What ways does Jesus share who He is with the woman at the well? What ways might you incorporate as you prepare to share Jesus with the new culture?

What happened as a result of Jesus ignoring possible personal reasons (read:excuses) to not be “on mission” on this journey?

    • Session Three Devo’s – Standing Firm

Read Mark 4:35-41 & 1 John 4:4. At this point in your preparation, you have probably already faced a trial or two. Maybe a discouraging setback relationally or financially, or perhaps doubt has come your way. God has called you to serve and to go.

How do the above passages relate to discouragement, trials, and hindrances?

What role does the Enemy play in this?

What is your spiritual stance after reading these verses?

    • Session Three Devo’s – Every Culture is Different

Read 1 Corinthians 9:22 & I Peter 2:17. Let’s face it. The culture you come from is different from the one you are serving on this trip. Though we don’t leave our culture behind (we are who we are!), we do show respect and esteem for the culture we serve on our trip.

What does this passage encourage you to do when the language is different, the food is different, the smells are different, the dress is different, the bathrooms are different, and the people are just not like you?

Don’t let opportunities to love others to Christ get destroyed by a sharp remark, a derisive laugh, or a questionable joke about national’s culture. Pray now that you can set aside your preferences and prefer others above yourself.

    • Interactions – Introduce Yourself

Test Since you are likely working through this course with others, introduce yourself to the others on the journey with you.

      • Share where you live, what you do for a living, where you worship, a bit about your family, and at least three things that “define” you (hobbies, talents, unique experiences, attributes, etc.)
      • Be creative! Please upload a picture, a video, music, or other ways to express who you are.
      • Be sure to read each introduction and respond to others on the journey with you.

    • Session Two Devo’s – Presenting Christ Jesus

Read Proverbs 25:25 and 2 Corinthians 5:20. When we enter a different culture than our own, we take our culture with us. We can’t stop being culturally who we are, but we can represent who we belong to – Christ Jesus! Respond to the following questions.

How can we make who we are in Christ the main thing others see?

How can you be an “ambassador” for Christ to others in this different culture?

    • Session One Devo’s – Light Breaks Through the Dark

Read Matthew 5:13-16. We all agree that Jesus is the Light who brings people out of the darkness. After reading these verses, respond to these questions.

      • Who does Jesus say is the light of the world?
      • How does your attitude affect the impact of the light to those you serve? How do your words add to this impact?
      • What does Jesus connect directly to the light you shine that will bring God glory?

You may, at times, question or be frustrated with the actions and attitudes of the people you serve. It could be that they remain “in the dark” spiritually! Your compassion, serving, prayer, and words can help dispel the dark.

Be sure to read others’ posts and respond to at least one other person’s post.

    • Session Two Devo’s – He Will Provide

Read Luke 18:1-8 and Psalm 34:7. Commit Psalm 34:7 to memory and make it a regular part of your prayer time.

Then, respond to the following questions:

What physical concerns do you have that you and others can entrust to God?

From what you know about your trip, your team, your activities and the culture you will reach out to, list here three concerns for which promise of Psalm 34:7 is valid.

    • Session One Devo’s – The Blind Can See

Read John 9:1-12. Respond to the first post.

In this passage, Jesus indicated that the blind man’s illness was not because of his sin or the sins of his parents.

      • What reason does He give for the man’s blindness?
      • What does He do for the man?
      • When you serve someone who hasn’t “seen” Jesus and the truth of the Gospel, what in this passage helps you to serve him/her and share the Good News?

Include your insights in this forum and respond to at least one other insight.

    • Session One Devos – The Blind Can See pt. 2

Read John 9:13-41. This passage completes the story from the previous devotion (Go back to “The Blind Can See pt. 1” if you haven’t already read this.)

      • Describe the different ways this previously blind man had been rejected and marginalized.
      • How does Jesus change his status? How does he respond to Jesus?
      • What do you have to give someone who is rejected or marginalized?

Remember that the Message of Jesus is for all, and many from all levels of economic, social, and educational life feel the rejection of “failure” and of “not fitting in.” Additionally, this message is definitely Good News for those who are hurt, helpless, sick, left out, or marginalized.

Post your insights in this forum and be sure to respond to at least one other post.
